From Theory to Practice
|
1.
Communicative approach: Experience sharing allows students to explore their
linguistic ability and express their living experiences.
2.
Task-based approach: Sentence patterns and related vocabulary learning about
the target task allows students to fulfill the task and apply what they have
learned to their real life.

The activity part about social interaction invites students to extend
their thinking and enhance their engagement with the task.

Cognitive approach: Students finish the practice part and assignment. It

Step 1 Warm up:
1. Students are divided into two groups. Use lollipops as an extrinsic
motivation. The winner group would get two lollipops in the end of the class.
2.
Q: What counties have you ever been? Please share your experience in the
countries.
Q: What will you do if you get lost in the foreign counities?
Step 2 Presentation:
1.
Teach vocabulary. First, ask students to
repeat each vocabulary after me and give English-English explanations of each
word. Students need to make sentences.
New Vocabulary: direction, particular, withdraw, avenue, boulevard, block, arrive at,
kitty-corner from

Reading part. Teachers use the top-down strategy
to go through the dialogue on the worksheet with students. Ask students to
read the dialogue aloud together. Then, pose the following think-aloud questions
about the dialogue to the students to make sure the students’ understanding
of the text.
Questions: Q1. Where is Bob going to first?
Q2. What should Bob do when he
comes to the stop sign? Turn right or turn left?
Q3: Where is the bank Frank is
telling to Bob? Across from the traffiic light, next to the traffic light or
kitty-corner from the traffic light?

O6: What could we say when we hope

Sentence patterns and practice part. Before teaching students patterns, teachers
will tell students that these patterns are needed to carry out the final
activity so that they can increase their motivation.
Pattern:

Step 3 Activity:
1.
Teachers will attach a map on the board.
Students do not know what kinds of stores will be in the map.

Diffeent groups are given their own to do
list and should guess which stores they can buy and do what they want . The
winner group will be the one who can fulfill the to do list first .
